Stevenage 1-0 Hartlepool United – BBC Sport

A howl from Hartlepool goalkeeper Ben Killip gave high-flying Stevenage all three points in a 1-0 win at the Lamex Stadium.

Danny Rose’s 79th-minute winner, at the expense of the beaten Pools keeper, meant the Hertfordshire side remained three points behind League Two leaders Leyton Orient.

The result was tough for the visiting team, which had matched the promotion contenders -despite their position in the table- until victory.

They remain in the relegation zone while Boro have gone three league games unbeaten.

It was the visitors who got the first big chance of the match when their top scorer Josh Umerah planted a free header off the crossbar in the 11th minute.

The Pools number nine then made a wide first attempt before Carl Piergianni hit wide with the hosts’ first attempt.

But the game was decided after the break when Rose sneaked up behind the unlucky Killip as he prepared to kick the ball downfield into the empty net.
