Moeen Ali and England white-ball head coach Matthew Mott have criticized the schedule which sees England start an ODI series against Australia on Thursday, just four days after their victory in the T20 World Cup final.
Several members of the England squad, including captain Jos Buttler and Moeen, have little time to revel in their triumph as they begin a three-match series in Adelaide on Thursday. It’s reminiscent of when several members of England’s 2019 contingent returned to action in a Test against Ireland 10 days after the World Cup final win over New Zealand.
“Those kinds of things are a shame and, you know, as a group we want to enjoy and celebrate and have that. [time] because you put a lot into it too,” Moeen added. “Having a game in three days is horrible. As players, we are getting used to it now. But giving 100% all the time is difficult when you play every two or three days.
Mott added: “Not ideal, I can’t lie. I think we always saw that series as something where we’re going to have to be really professional. The schedule is the schedule and we have to move with it.”
