Mykhaylo Mudryk explained why he would choose Arsenal over Real Madrid if they both called him up in January and revealed he would be upset if he doesn’t move in the winter window.
Mudryk he has been in good form for Shakhtar Donetsk this season, showing his talent in the Champions League and scoring eight goals and eight assists in all competitions.
Arsenal reportedly made a belated offer of around £30m in the summer which was rejected by Shakhtar but is expected to return for the 21-year-old, who has a growing list of admirers.
In an interview with Vlada Sedan, wife of Arsenal winger and fellow Ukrainian Oleksandr Zinchenko, Mudryk said he is a big fan of Arsenal’s style of football as explained why a move to the Emirates attracts.
Asked which teams he has enjoyed and followed this season, Mudryk said: “Napoli, they are playing very well at the moment with some great players, Bayern, City and Arsenal.
“I check Arsenal on ‘myscore’ and I know when they are playing I can see them.”
“I look at them too. (Arsenal is) a very dynamic team, in general not only in control of possession but also in scoring goals.
“From a purely theoretical fantasy perspective, if there was a choice to be a bench player at Real Madrid or a starter at Arsenal, I would probably pick Arsenal, but it’s a tough question that involves a lot of factors.
“First I would like to hear from the head coach that even if he wasn’t a guaranteed starter, he would get a chance. Essentially, I need to hear directly from the manager what he envisions my role alongside him.
“A surprise for me was the number of Arsenal fans who followed me. No other club’s fans have interacted as much as they have. Telling me that they are waiting for me, saying ‘Come with us’. One of my recent posts has over 500 comments saying that.”
Undoubtedly, it led to a preference for Arsenal over Madrid, Vlada then asked: “Aren’t you going to just go for ‘the emblem on the shirt’?
“No,” Muddyk replied.
Vlada: “Does the prospect of playing in the same wing with Zina, playing with another Ukrainian, excite you too?”
Mudryk: “Yes, it does.”
Vlada: “Will you be angry if you don’t move in the winter?”
