England team image released and numbers announced as Three Lions prepare to travel to Qatar | UK News

England have posted a photo of their World Cup squad as they prepare to travel to Qatar.

The photo of the 26 players and manager Gareth Southgate showed them dressed in clothing from the team’s official tailor, Marks and Spencer.

A beaming Southgate can be seen sitting in the middle of the pack, flanked by captain Harry Kane and veteran midfielder Jordan Henderson.

Along with the image, the team’s numbers were also revealed when the group gathered at St George’s Park in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, before their flight to Doha on Tuesday.

Southgate has handed out the numbers one to 12 to the same players who wore them at Euro 2020, where they lost on penalties to Italy in the Wembley final.

Jordan Pickford is back in the number one jersey while captain Harry Kane takes number nine.

Kalvin Phillips, Conor Coady, Mason Mount and Phil Foden also wear the numbers 14, 16, 19 and 20 respectively, as they did at the European Championships last year.

Leicester’s James Maddison has been given the number 25 shirt, ending any lingering doubts about his fitness after picking up an injury during the Foxes’ 2-0 win over West Ham at the weekend.

The other two goalkeepers, Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale, wear the numbers 13 and 23 respectively.

Bukayo Saka has been promoted to number 17, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, who missed last year’s European Championships through injury, receiving the 18 shirt and Eric Dier, who failed to make the cut for the final tournament claiming 15.
