The sports world has shifted its focus to the world’s biggest soccer festival, the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, but tensions still persist on the Ukraine-Russia border amid the ongoing war between the two countries. Poland, a country that shares its border with Ukraine and Russia, has also been in a tense situation following the recent missile launch near the Polish-Ukrainian border, which killed two people. As a result of the current situation, the Polish soccer team, which will participate in the World Cup in Qatar, was escorted by F-16 fighter jets on their way to the Middle Eastern country.

The official Twitter account of the Polish team shared the video of it. The plane carrying the players from Poland was reportedly escorted to the country’s border by F-16 jets. Here is the video:

“We were escorted to the southern border of Poland by F-16 planes! Thank you and regards to the pilots!” The Polish soccer team’s Twitter account posted, with some images of fighter jets.

As far as the FIFA World Cup is concerned, Poland kick off their campaign in the Group C clash against Mexico on Tuesday. The Robert Lewandowski-led team will then take on Saudi Arabia on November 26 before taking on Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the most anticipated group clash on November 30.

Poland would look to guide the team to their first round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1986.
