A new trailer for the anime adaptation of Nier: Automata arrives

2022 was a big year for animated video game adaptations. One of last year’s notable animated shows was Cyberpunk Edgerunner, which helped Cyberpunk 2077 regain a portion of its lost player base. Another popular video game series seems to follow in the footsteps of Cyberpunk 2077 with its own anime adaptation.

Nier: Automata Ver1.1a drops a new trailer and release date.

A new trailer for the anime adaptation of Nier: Automata arrives

Platinum Games’ Nier: Automata is getting an anime adaptation this coming year titled Nier: Automata Ver1.1a. The upcoming animated series has a new trailer showing off its leads 2B and 9S. The trailer also reveals the release date for Nier: Automata Ver1.1a.

Based on the trailer, the anime appears to be a faithful adaptation of the Nier: Automata story. However, the game has 26 different endings and we won’t know until the end of the season or series which one will be used in the anime. We doubt that the animated series uses 26the secret ending that was discovered three years and ten months after the game’s release. The series can throw a curveball and create its own unique ending that would be fitting for Nier: Automata.

Nier: Automata Ver1.1a will be broadcast on various television stations in Japan, including Tokyo MX, GYT, GTV, and BS11. Internationally, the animated series was licensed by Aniplex of America, which stated that the show is “scheduled to air in more than 160 countries and regions.” Crunchyroll will stream the upcoming anime series.

The video game Nier: Automata was released in 2017 to critical acclaim. The game has a huge cult following among fans of the ARPG genre. The game has shipped more than seven million copies since 2017.

The anime adaptation appears to be a faithful retelling of the video game.

Nier: Automata takes place thousands of years after the first game’s timeline. In the video game, humans have left an Earth torn apart by a war between android “YoRHa” forces and an army of invading machines. The protagonists 2B and his partner 9S fight to defeat the Machine Network led by Adam and Eve.

We’ll find out more about how the anime series will diverge from the source material when it streams on Crunchyroll on January 7.
